MINIMI™ 7.62 Standard Fixed Butt

7.62x51mm NATO
"MINIMI™ 7.62 Standard Fixed Butt"

Introduction

Originally designed for both 5.56x45mm and 7.62x51mm ammunition, the MINIMI™ machine gun was finally developed and manufactured in 5.56x45mm as a result of the NATO acceptance of the caliber for light weapons.

In the early 2000's, following a requirement for a 7.62x51mm lightweight machine gun from USSOCOM (United States Special Operations COMmand), the MINIMI™ 7.62 was brought back into development and updated to meet the required specifications. FN Herstal won the competition and the MINIMI™ 7.62 was adopted by USSOCOM under the MK 48 designation.

The MINIMI™ 7.62 light machine gun offers the advantage of a lightweight machine gun - the MINIMI™ 5.56 -  firing the powerful 7.62x51mm cartridge.

The MINIMI™ 7.62 is available in 4 versions:

      • MINIMI™ 7.62 Standard Fixed Butt
      • MINIMI™ 7.62 Standard Sliding Butt
      • MINIMI™ 7.62 T.R. Fixed Butt
      • MINIMI™ 7.62 T.R. Sliding Butt

Benefits

  • Easy to Carry

The primary role of the MINIMI™ 7.62 is to be used as a support weapon by troops who operate on foot over rough ground for prolonged periods, out of range of supporting fire from vehicles. The MINIMI™ 7.62 can also be used as a pintle-mounted weapon that can be easily dismounted.

The weight of the MINIMI™ 7.62 Standard Fixed Butt (8.2 kg) means that the weapon is easy to carry.
  • Easy to Shoot

Certain types of terrain or fighting in buildings may require the user to shoot from the standing position. Here again, the weight of the MINIMI™ 7.62 is a real advantage.

Additionally, the MINIMI™ 7.62 is equipped with a hydraulic buffer contained in the buttstock for stabilized firing rate and reduced recoil forces.

Finally, the MINIMI™ 7.62 is handled exactly like the MINIMI™ 5.56, which is serving over 45 countries worldwide. Consequently, whoever is familiar with the MINIMI™ 5.56 is able to use the MINIMI™ 7.62 with no extra training.
  • Safe Sustained Fire

Belt feeding provides high volume of fire.

An open bolt firing mechanism (no risk of cook-off) and a quick change barrel guarantee safe sustained fire.
  • Long Range Capability

The MINIMI™ 7.62 fires the 7.62 cartridge for an effective range of up to 1,000m.
